Can i sit & qualify for UGC Net exam?

I have done MBA . But it is from SMU and in distance mode. Moreover my age age has crossed 28 yrs so i will not be eligible for JRF fellow? Then is it wise to sit for Net? will i be able to compete with regular MBA's?
