Any Lesbian/Gay friendly neighborhoods in the Northwest area..?

Preferably in the Vancouver/Longview Washington- Portland, Oregon areas.. I know Portland is extremely friendly when it comes to the LGBT community, but I also heard it is a high crime area. Which will not work due to a disabled child living with me and my partner.. We have to relocate from the east coast due to unforeseen circumstances... Any information, direction will be greatly appreciated.. We are tearing our hair out and getting nowhere fast..
